checking in, checking out

As it turns out, my relationship with blogging will be much like social media. And that means I’ll thoroughly check out sometimes to recuperate and tend to other things.

There’s so much on our family plate between a new homeschool year, my full-time writing schedule for Showbiz Cheat Sheet, three holidays rapidly approaching, and the rest of life in general.

So, I’ll have plenty to write about when I can find the time. But meanwhile, here’s a very minor update.

Checking in: I have an international audience!

I was a little worried that checking my stats for my first month of blogging might take the wind out of my sails, but I was surprised to see I had more than 400 views for my first handful of posts. And I have an international audience, which is amazing!

Maybe it’s nothing to some people, but I think it feels fantastic!

I didn’t know what to expect going into this since almost everything here is part of my story, but I didn’t expect this!

So, thank you to everyone who visits. This encourages me to keep writing.

Connor is a 5th grader!

Connor is officially in his fifth-grade school year and is off to a great start. Unlike me, his mother, he’s a math whiz and computes in his brain like a walking, talking calculator.

Writing, however, is his least favorite thing. He makes and says sentences aloud all day, every day. But when it’s time to put one to three on paper, he gets a mental block.

He’s 11 now and barreling toward adolescence but still innocent in many ways. For example, when he heard Derek and me talking about how we hadn’t been on a date for a while, he asked us, “Why would you want to do that again?”

At the same time, he’s getting huge! His feet are larger than mine now, so I gave myself his old sneakers. I’ll personally never be too old for hand-me-downs … and hand-me-ups!

Checking out: thank you for being here

This update is brief, and I apologize for my lack of blog activity. I’m not abandoning this, even though I’ve hardly had time for it for a week or more. I will refocus soon.

I want to reiterate how much I appreciate anyone stopping in and looking around in the meantime. If you’re reading this, thank you for your support!

    Hi Katie 🙂

This site reminds me of some of my “hand coded” sites from years gone by! 😀 That’s not bad — rather, it’s sort of like handicraft.

Speaking of which, this post is apparently a new category — and it’s not shown in your site’s navigation. IDK how you are managing this, but I would use the “Customizer” to add in the “Updates” category.

Hi Norbert! Thank you for stopping in and leaving a kind note! Most of my website-building knowledge comes from way back in middle school, so the feeling of nostalgia is definitely a byproduct of my basic skill level. But my 8th-grade self would be highly impressed by the site as it is, and I count that as a win for now! 😊

I appreciate you pointing out that I forgot to create an “Updates” category button — I’ve put one on the home page!

      Thanks again!
      Katie 😃
